Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
 
The French Section of Médecins Sans Frontières is currently recruiting for its project in Maiduguri, Borno state - Nigeria to fill the following positions:
 
Position 1: Nurses Supervisors

Work Location:
MSF Maiduguri project – Maimusari clinic – Nigeria.
 
Contract:
Local contract – 208 working hours per month and roster flexibility required.
 
Job Description:
Patient Care:
Provision of quality patient care within the facility.
Ensures that M.S.F. policies and protocols are strictly adhered to at all times.
Medical orders and instructions are adhered to.
Proper sterile and aseptic techniques in wound management at all times
Maintain up to date bed status reports and document patient movements into and out of the unit.
Report any irregularities and take action to remedy any inconsistencies.
Human Resources:
Maintain appropriate staffing levels at all times.
Assist with recruitment, orientation and ongoing training of team members.
Ensure that roster and allocation of staff corresponds with demand.
Participate in evaluation and performance appraisal of team members.
Management of the team
Supply of Materials:
Ensure the provision of materials and supplies as required.
Supervise orders, supplies and consumption of all stock and act on any noted irregularities.
Maintain documentation that accurately reflects consumption, ordering and supplied stock.
Ensure that sufficient and appropriate materials are available at all times to complete the required tasks.
Ensure the correct sorting and storage of medical and non-medical items within the facility.
 
Qualifications/Requirements:
Nurse and midwifery qualification. Minimum 2 years of nursing experience and MSF experience is desirable
Fluency in spoken and written English and Hausa language
Strong work ethic: punctuality, responsibility and flexibility
Managerial and organisational capacity, initiative
Respectful and courteous attitude to staff and patients
High level of motivation and ability to learn.

Position 2: Registered Midwives (RMs).

Work Location:
MSF Maiduguri project – Maimusari clinic – Nigeria.
 
Contract:
Local contract (3 months) – 208 working hours per month and roster flexibility required.
 
Job Description:
Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.
Ensure the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care, neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardised protocols.
Collaborate with the medical doctor and /or nurse in the management of Sexual Violence cases
Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to MSF specifications.
Guarantee a regular and ongoing supply of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities (including monitoring/consumption control/ordering of orders.
Properly follow up all newborn babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
Ensure patients right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
Supervise that administrative procedures of admissions and hospitalizations comply with MSF protocols , as well as verify patients are properly informed and receive the documents required (birth certificate, vaccination card, etc
Participate in the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwifes and the maternity ward supervisor. Ensure transfer of relevant information to the next shift team (specially identifying risk cases)
 
Qualifications/Requirements:
Essential recognized midwife degree
Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGOs
Fluency in spoken and written English and Hausa language
High level of motivation and ability to learn.
