In Nigeria, MSH implements several projects including the Leadership, Management and Sustainability project. USAID recently modified MSH ProACT project as part of the USG rationalization initiative to support the Government of Nigeria to effectively and efficiently prevent and control HIV/AIDS in the country. MSH currently supports following services: HIV counselling and Testing, PMTCT, Adult and Paediatric ART, TB/HI and OVC in 41 comprehensive are and treatment health facilities in Nigeria.
Management Sciences For Health (MSH) is currently recruiting to fill the following position:
Position: Nutritional Intervention Consultant
Location: Abuja, Nigeria.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Following PEPFAR strategic demand for accountability and reporting of nutritional intervention among HIV positive children in MSH Pro-ACT care and treatment program, MSH will train a pull of health care workers to meet the new program goal. In view of this, MSH will engage 4 experienced facilitators who will lead and conduct the training to support nutritional intervention at the health facility level. The facilitators will have a 2 days pre-training meeting with MSH technical team at the central level to harmonize and align capacity building outputs with PEPFAR expectations. 153 participants drawn across 41 health facilities and MSH and M&E staff will be trained in 4 batches from November 9th to 14 2015. Additionally, eligible trainers from the center for health professional continuing education will support the process to further strengthen and sustain capacity building efforts in the states.
Specific Responsibilities:
Terms of reference (TOR)
The facilitators will work in pairs to facilitate/conduct a 3-days two batches of back-to back capacity building on severe and moderate acute malnutrition
The facilitators will conduct a pre- and post-test evaluation before and after the training including making available a comprehensive report
The facilitators will guide and ensure the documentation and analysis of daily evaluation forms as this will form the basis for improvement of future training
S/he will lead the practical sessions at the facility including taking participants through on how to assess and document malnutrition intervention in the appropriate documentation tools
The facilitators will adapt work group sessions for the training to reflect the cadre of technical persons participating at the training including capacity to transfer such knowledge to facility level staff.
At the end of the engagement, the facilitators will provide a comprehensive report of the process and outcomes as detailed above including a post training facility level plans.
Deliverables:
Train 153 health care workers and a number of MSH Staff
Compile training reports to be submitted to the leadership of MSH 72 hours post training
Document and share post training plans for sustainable service delivery at the facility level
Share recommendation to improve facility level intervention
Consultant Responsibilities:
The facilitators are expected to have a touch based session with MSH technical team prior to the training to harmonize training messages and expected training outputs
Roles of PROACT:
Provide all the financial requirements - Accommodation and transportation
Provide logistics required for the trainings
Qualifications/Requirements:
S/he should have an advanced university degree in Nutrition or Public Health
Degree in Health, Nutrition or related field e.g. MBChB, Public Health, B.Sc Nutrition
Health / Public Health / Nutrition / BSc or equivalent
Minimum 5 years’ experience in primary health and nutrition programs in resource poor settings
Criteria for Selection of Training Facilitators on Nutrition
Training
Have undergone a TOT or training on nutrition in the past with emphasis of management of Acute and Moderate severe malnutrition
Experience in capacity building and mentoring of health staff
Knowledge of nutritional intervention in HIV care and treatment settings
Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff
Evidence of facilitating trainings on nutrition and other related nutritional intervention trainings
Expert Knowledge of OVC nutritional interventions including working experience with OVC programs
Practical experience with recoding and reporting nutritional intervention
Experience in conducting assessments and an understanding of nutritional data
General:
Good oral/writing and communication skills
Sample of training report conducted in the past.
