The proposed indefinite strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, scheduled to commence on Thursday June 9, 2016 has been suspended for one week.
This followed a meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and the association in which he impressed on it to allow the House intervene in the matter.
According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan in Abuja, the suspension came after a meeting between the executive members of the association, Dogara and chairmen of relevant House Committees in his office.
Speaking to them, Dogara asked the resident doctors to grant the House one week to meet with the ministers so as to come up with ways to address the lingering grievances. He noted that democracy is about the wellbeing of the citizens, and appealed to the association to understand that the country is presently going through challenges.
