The French Section Of The Medicines Sans Fronteirs is currently recruiting to fill the following position:
Position: Medical Doctor
Work Location: Jahun Hospital, Jigawa State - Nigeria.
Contract:
Unlimited contract duration starting as soon as possible
208 working hours per month and roster flexibility required
Job Description:
Know and apply the standard protocols for the Neonatal Care Unit in Term of prescription
Treat all patients and their family members with respect and ensure privacy and confidentiality
Carries out a detailed consultation of the neonatal ward patients, prescribes the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols and records his/her observations in the medical files
To work in collaboration with the NICU supervisors of each department to ensure accuracy in the data collection (weekly-monthly and if required)
Guides the Nurses to triage and manage patients presenting according to the criteria defined by the coordination team and/or the MTL
Refers other cases not included in the defined admission criteria ensures that every patient is examined
Provides the patient with information on their illness, explaining the treatments involved and how to follow them, checking that patient (Family) has understood
Works in collaboration with a multi disciplinary team and participates in on going personnel training (care techniques, updating protocols etc)
Conducts a daily round with the Neonatal Nurses
Review maternal history and delivery for complete documentation in the books/forms; Documents all care thoroughly and ensure continuity of care through handover
Carries out a detailed consultation of the neonatal ward patients, prescribes the necessary treatment
Ensures that registers charts and logs recurrent and in good conditions. Inform the NICU supervisors when new forms or registers are needed
Document the mortality report in collaboration with the expat neonatal doctor or nurse, medical activity manager and the MTL
Follow standard precautions and Procedures of Accidental Blood Exposure (PEP)
Maintain a clean and hygienic state in your unit at all times including the crags for the neonates and the pharmacy or drug cupboard
Follow basic hygiene standards in all medical procedures at all times
Maintain orderly current patient charts ensure that they are at the bed side and available at all times
Understand the proper use and are capable of operating all medical equipment in the NICU including scales, pulse oximeters, thermometers, haemoglobin and glucose measuring devices both manual and automatic blood pressure devices, stethoscope, constant infusion (Syringe) and micro iv sets
Follow the HBB protocol (Helping Babies Breath)
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation when indicated
Attend OT and maternity to assist resuscitation of neonates as requested by the midwife manager or doctor on duty
Qualifications/Requirements:
Nigerian Medical Diploma with minimum of 1 year of active clinical experience since graduation
Strong work ethic, commitment to humanitarian objectives and patient care
Motivation, flexibility and capacity to work as a team
Fluent in spoken and written English and Hausa (Preferably)
