It is with great sadness that the Democratic Alliance sends our sympathies to the family, friends, fans and former team mates of football legend, John 'Shoes' Moshoeu.
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder and Kaizer Chiefs player passed away this yesterday after a long battle with cancer.
'Shoes' was capped 73 times for Bafana Bafana and we will never forget his four goals at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1996. These goals and his overall performance at the tournament were instrumental in helping Bafana Bafana to win the AFCON cup that year.
His imprint on South African football is indelible. Such was his popularity that skilful soccer stars in many townships were nicknamed after him.
Our deepest condolences go to his family and the nation in this time of great loss.
HWN.........may his gentle soul rest in peace!
