A certain Donald Lee-Edwards, from New York was over the weekend, arrested for pretending to be a medical doctor and psychologist.
Reports say the 43-year-old man never graduated from medical school or earned a doctorate degree to be licensed for either profession. He was a former flight attendant and upon his alleged pretense as a medical practitioner for the past 3 years, he had operated from of a basement below a two-family home at 255 Gordon Street and has allegedly treated more than 100 patients from his apartment.
Upon investigations, he was said to have prescribed patients’ medications and took blood and urine samples, prescribing antidepressants and interpreting lab tests and results.
Investigations further revealed that Lee-Edwards was arrested by the law enforcement agents after a patient became suspicious of his unorthodox bedside manner, talking about other patients, bragging he graduated from high school at age 13 and saying he even attended law school.
The Attorney at Acting Richmond County District, Daniel Master, said: The accused merely conferred upon himself the professional titles of clinical psychologist and medical doctor. He is neither trained nor licensed to provide any mental health or medical services.”
Prosecutors divulged that Lee-Edwards had been attending to patients since 2013, hyping himself to have worked extensively with family members and victims of 9/11, although it was unclear if he actually did.
Lee-Edwards’ attorney, Matthew Blum, said, “They are alleging he was some sort of doctor who was operating on people. Now, they want to turn him into a monster when he was really just trying to help some people in his community.
