Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney will have to sit out Tuesday night's Champions League game at PSV Eindhoven.
The England forward missed Saturday evening's 3-1 Premier League win over Liverpool at Old Trafford after picking up an injury in training and will not be rushed back for United's Group B opener in Holland, although he could be available for Sunday's trip to Southampton, live on Sky Sports.
Young forwards James Wilson and Andreas Pereira are both in the United squad for the PSV clash.
Rooney picked up a hamstring problem in training last week and United boss Louis van Gaal said after the win over Liverpool that he was unlikely to recover in time for the trip to the Netherlands.
Van Gaal said: "We have to wait and see if he can play against PSV because we still have days to go. I don't think he will but maybe he shall play at Southampton.
I think he is very important for us and I don't want to take any risks.
Marouane Fellaini started up front against Liverpool and may reprise that role in Eindhoven.
However, new boy Anthony Martial came off the bench to score against the Reds and Van Gaal might opt to use the youngster from the start.
