Over the last several years, smoking shisha has increased among the youth and teenagers, as a number of the Kabul citizens while expressing concern over the issue said that a number of youth have been addicted while they immigrated to foreign countries.
Obaidullah, a Shahr-e-Naw resident told that there are many hookah bars in Kabul city and unfortunately the youth can easily access shisha. He also added that I am of those youth who daily go to hookah bars with his friends and smoke hookah, although, I know it harms my health, but it is so hard to leave that. Anosh, another resident believes that narcotics must not be used, but unfortunately, he smokes cigarette and shisha since one year. He asked the ministries of public health and interior to close the hookah bars and cafes, so the people never go there. A number of people said if serious attention was not paid by the ministry of public health and other relevant organizations, a huge number of youth would be addicted in the future. This is while that recent World Health Organization (WHO) findings suggest that one person is being died in each 8 seconds in the world due to using narcotics.
It is to be mentioned that the tobacco control law, with five season and 25 article have recently been approved by the lower house of the parliament. Based on this law, smoking is not allowed in general places. Hookahs are water pipes that are used to smoke specially made tobacco that comes in different flavors, such as apple, mint, cherry, chocolate, coconut, licorice, cappuccino, and watermelon. Although, many users think it is less harmful, hookah smoking has many of the same health risks as cigarette smoking. Hookah tobacco and smoke contain many toxic agents that can cause clogged arteries and heart disease. In fact, an hour-long hookah smoking session involves 200 puffs, while smoking an average cigarette involves 20 puffs, and shisha smokers are at high risk of oral cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, cancer of the esophagus, reduced lung function, decreased fertility.
