Nurses, doctors and midwives in Katsina state begins strike on HWN UPDATE

Doctors, nurses and midwives have withdrawn their services in protest against the failure of the Katsina State government to address their demands.
 
Patients are as a result relocating to private clinics in search of health care following the shutdown of  services at government hospitals.
 
The health workers are reacting to what they termed government’s insensitivity to their plight.
 
The resident doctors are protesting the non payment of salaries, training allowances, failure to  commence payment of salaries to newly employed doctors for over a five months, non  implementation of skipping with its  arrears, non payment of training fees as well as non implementation of the new entry step for house officers.
 
For nurses and midwives, their complaint is the appointment of a medical doctor as chairman of the Board of Governing Council of the College of Nursing and Midwifery instead of a professional nurse.
 
Similarly, the Nigerian Medical Association in the state are set to embark on strike over the recent appointment of 15 Egyptian doctors to run the newly established orthopaedic hospital.
