Federal University Otuoke Concludes Health Week on HWN UPDATE

The Vice Chancellor Federal University Otuoke Prof. Mobolaji Aluko says a sound health culture must be promoted within the University for optimum productivity.
 
Prof. Aluko said this while declaring open the 2015 health week organized by the University Medical Unit for staff and students of the Institution.
 
The essence of the health week according to the Vice Chancellor represented at the opening ceremony by the Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof. Philomena Ejele, is to ensure physical fitness and mental alertness among staff and students.
 
The opening ceremony featured lectures on Hepatitis B and C delivered by Dr. Chinyere Madubuike, consultant Gastro Enterologist and Hepatologist, Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa who pointed out causes and measures of preventing Hepatitis.
 
The Director and project coordinator Bayelsa State action committee on AIDS, (BYSACA) Dr. Temple Iluma represented by programme coordinator (BYSACA), Dr. Peter Erigbali spoke on ways to prevent HIV and AIDS in the society.  High points of the occasion were free Hepatitis B and C screening and free BP checks for staff and students of the University and distribution of STD preventive kits.
 
Speaking at the occasion the Senior Medical officer, FUO Dr. Nwachukwu Uchenna thanked participants for coming, pledging to make the Health Week an annual event.
 
Dr. Uchenna said the health awareness became necessary to enlighten the University Community on the need to stay healthy.
 
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko Wednesday 15th July, 2015 defied the morning rain to lead staff and students of the University on a health walk as part of the activities marking the Health Week. Prof. Aluko enjoined participants to make it a routine to live healthy positing that physical exercises increases the life span of individuals.  Donning their jogging kits, FUO staff and students displayed a high level of enthusiasm during the fitness walk, chanting, singing and drumming.
 
The 2015 Health week is the maiden Edition by the institution and ended on the 17th of July 2015
