A retired civil servant, Mr. Emmanuel Olamurin, had on Friday, pleaded with an Akure Customary Court to dissolve his 21-year-old marriage, accusing his wife of squeezing his manhood, trying to kill him.
The complainant told the court that the union had lost all affection needed in a good marriage and should therefore be dissolved.
He said, “My wife, Modupe, wanted to kill me by gripping and pulling my manhood. She is a great threat and I can no longer live with her.”
He also alleged that Modupe was fond of duping and stealing his money, and cited some instances.
Speaking further, Emmanuel added that Modupe had sold some properties belonging to the family, without his consent.
The defendant, Modupe, mother of one, who was also present in court, accused her husband of promiscuity, saying that it was the main reason for his call for dissolution of the marriage.
She however denied the allegations and insisted that the marriage contract must remain.
She said, “I once caught him in bed with a neighbour. Instead of showing some remorse, he declared he was at liberty to do anything.
Tell me, what sort of husband would do such and still be the first to run to court?” she quizzed.
Elders had intervened to resolve the issues, but my husband have always turned deaf ears.”
The court president, Mrs. Modupe Alex-Adedipe, in her ruling, advised the complainant to desist from committing all the atrocities his wife accused him of.
She admonished Emmanuel to take proper care of his family, especially their only child, because family peace would ensure a bright future for the boy.
She, however, adjourned the case to September 15, for further hearing.
