The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara Delta have embarked on an indefinite strike over the assault and battery of a Nurse (Name Withheld).
 
The Assault is reported to have taken place on the 5th of January 2016 and was carried out by a Nigerian Airforce Officer named Ovie Doghro.
 
Ovie Doghro had on the above date beat up a Nurse on the Hospital Grounds to the extent of striping her Naked. This attack was reported to have taken place in the male medical ward where Mr Ovie's Father was admitted.

Nurses who prefer to remain anonymous and witnesed the attack reported that his fathers condition was poor and fragile with the patients relatives councelled by the Hospitals CMAC to prepare for the inevitable. On the 5th after the taking over for the day the victim had on visiting her patient and seeing his condition called for help from other Nurses and requested all family members to depart the room including Mr Ovie who resisted the request but in the end left the room.
 
Unfortunately the patient passed away and after all attempts to resuscitate him failed, the time of death was called and the family informed.
 
Mr Ovie was reported to have flown into a rage and attacked the Nurse on the spot from behind, punching and tearing up her uniform. Other Nurses, some patients and their relatives attempted to stop his attack on her which continued till he was held down by the crowd and the Nurse rescued.

In May 2015 A nurse was beaten and a doctor threatened in Aramoko in Ekiti West local government area.

NANNM DELSUTH in a memo to the Hospitals management before embarking on this strike action have demanded for the following:
 
1. The arrest of the assailant Mr Ovie Doghro and his prosecution in the court of law
2. An apology letter to the nurse from Mr Ovie
3. Payment of restitution and for injuries and damagies to the nurse
4. The provision of protection & security to the hospital by its management to prevent such further occurences
 
The Indefinite Strike Action kicked off at 12 Midnight 8th January 2016.

IN A SIMILAR DEVELOPMENT at Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa in Bayelsa state - Nigeria, a male nurse was physically assaulted on 30th October, 2015 by a Female Ward Maid (Name withheld).

Based on previous experience cum criminal offense, the male nurse contacted his lawyer to expedite litigation against the ward maid on the following charges:

1. Breach of Agreement.
2. Assault with intent to harm.
3. Assassination of Character (Defamation of Character).
4. Public Insult
5. Provocation via the use of Whatsapp SMS.

Although, The Management Board FMC Yenagoa had pleaded with the Male Nurse for them to handle the case. The Male Nurse have given the Management Board till 15th January, 2016 to redress the case, ensuring that justice prevails and all financial damages fully compensated by the ward maid to the male Nurse cum apology letter rendered to the Nurse with regards to assassinating his character.

The male Nurse have stated specifically that if the above criteria is not met on or before the 15th of January, 2016 that the case will finally be taken to the Law Court. Where he believes that justice will prevail without tribal sentiments cum nepotism.
