A former APC governorship candidate in Kogi state, Prince Rotimi Obadofin, is dead.

The late politician reportedly died in Osogbo, the Osun state capital on Thursday night after rupturing his appendix and also contested the governorship ticket of APC in last year’s election but could not make it past the primaries as he lost late Prince Abubakar Audu.

Obadofin contested on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before the merger which produced the All Progressives Congress (APC), Vanguard reports.

Prince Rotimi was a front line member of Afenifere and hailed from Aiyegunle Gbede, in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state.

In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Kingsley Fanwo, Yahaya Bello described the late Obadofin as a Pragmatic democrat, fiery human right defender and a believer in the core ethos of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group that wrestled power from khakistocrats and returned the nation to representative democracy.

It should be recalled that Prince Abubakar Audu died on November 23, 2015 after leading in the Kogi gubernatorial election. He was later replaced by incumbent governor, Bello, after series of clashes with the late governor’s running mate, James Faleke.
