Wrong vaccine administered to five kids on HWN UPDATE

At least five kids were administered the wrong immunizations at a New Jersey health clinic, an audit found.

All five incidents happened at the Salem County-run Shots for Tots program at The Memorial Hospital in Mannington Township between July 2014 and last month. The clinic has since been shut down.

County officials say that a 2-year-old boy was given an excessive dose of Gardasil, a controversial HPV vaccine. Two kids were injected with expired vaccines, and one child was given a flu mist dose, despite being under the recommended age for the mist. Officials are still trying to determine which vaccine a fifth child was given.

The county will pay for medical monitoring of the five affected kids “for the foreseeable future.”

Officials also say that $20,000 worth of vaccines weren’t properly refrigerated and had to be thrown out.
