Muslim group, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), on Thursday donated artificial limbs to 29 amputees in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.

Speaking during the launching of the programme, the chairman of the JIBWIS’s MANARA charity committee , Abdullahi Lau, said the artificial limbs would be designed in accordance with beneficiaries’ body size, and be made available within a stipulated time.

He said the exercise, which is in collaboration with their India-based partners, led by Dan’Agaji Jega, would be delivered in phases, noting that beneficiaries of the first set have already been given the prosthesis.

One of the beneficiaries, Farida Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the donors and urged the beneficiaries not to despair or resort to begging.

Begging is un-Islamic. You should be self-reliant and hardworking. These artificial limbs will reduce stigma and make us mingle without sense of challenge,” Ms. Abdullahi, a primary school teacher, said.

She called on the state government to emulate JIBWIS toward assisting amputees and the physically challenged.
