The Federal Government is considering adding HIV in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Head of Prevention, Department of Public Health in the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Chukwuma Anyaike has said.
He disclosed at a conference on the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV organized by the Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) in collaboration with HealthySunrise Foundation in Abuja.
Anyaike said NHIS is now majorly at the organized sector but they are hoping to expand it to involve communities and other areas.
NISA conference lead, and Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health, University of Nevada, Dr Echezona Ezeanolue said mother-to-child transmission of HIV remains a significant public health problem in sub-Saharan Africa.
NB:
HWN Africa (DWN Africa), a division of Tripple World Africa Network strongly suggests that the Federal Government of Nigeria should also consider adding those living with Kidney Disease as Well Cancer Patients into NHIS.
