Some resident doctors have staged a peaceful protest over the kidnap of their colleague last week in Delta State.
Members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara and the state’s chapter of the Medical Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) took to the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday to demand the release of Doctor Obiabo.
According to the doctors, “No fewer than 10 members of staff have been kidnapped and ransom demanded. In this particular case, the ransom of 15 million Naira has been demanded by the kidnappers before the victim is released”.
The ARD President, Dr. Innocent Okocha and the MDCAN Vice Chairman, Dr. Umuerri Ejiro, demanded the intervention of the Delta State government and other security agencies to ensure the release of their member in less than 48 hours.
Receiving the doctors on behalf of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the Secretary to the State Government, Festus Agas, assured the doctors of the commitment of the present administration to safety of lives and property in the state.
The Spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Celestina Kalu, also said that the Police was doing its best to ensure the release of the victim.
